Henna is made from henna leaves. Oil-based henna is typically made by infusing henna leaves in a carrier oil, such as coconut or sesame oil, to extract its beneficial properties. Traditional henna comes from leaves, which are dried, crushed and sifted, and then made into a paste with water, or an acidic liquid like tea or lemon juice, before being applied to the skin or hair. Colored henna simply just has different herbs to "dye" the paste different colors for your skin. All are used to draw designs and leave a "tattoo" like stain on the skin. These "tattoos" can last up to two week at a time. Henna has been a symbol of beauty, health, and happiness for centuries. It's been used in traditional ceremonies like weddings, births, and religious festivals.
